Our Statement of Faith

Below is a brief Statement of Faith of Morristown Baptist Tabernacle. We invite  you to contact our pastor if you have any questions concerning our beliefs and stand on the Word of God.

ARTICLE IV – ARTICLES OF FAITH

Section 1

These Articles of Faith represent the foundational basis on which we at Morristown Baptist Tabernacle place all our faith and belief.  In our world today we recognize there are significant differences in societal perspectives of the church than those of even a few years ago – particularly those views of the independent, fundamental, New Testament Baptist church.

While the breadth and depth of our creed, beliefs, convictions, standards, modes and methods of practice are contained in God’s Holy Word, the Bible (the Authorized King James Version), we find it is necessary to delineate, as much as humanly possible, those beliefs in such a way as there is no misunderstanding as to the position we, at Morristown Baptist Tabernacle, Inc., take on these issues, beliefs and practices.

Section 2          The Scriptures (Bibliology)

We Believe that the Bible is the Word of God, and that it was written by men who were moved by the Holy Spirit so that their      writings, in the original, were supernaturally and verbally inspired and free from error.       We use the Authorized King James Version of the Bible

Section 3          God (Theology)

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (the Trinity).  God is a spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Section 4          Jesus Christ (Christology)

We believe that Christ is the second person of the God head.  He is the Son of Man and the Son of God (deity of Christ).  He was conceived by the Holy Ghost in the virgin Mary.  He was tempted in all points as we are, yet was without sin.  Because of His sinless life he was able to die for our sins as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified by His shed blood on Calvary. Because of His bodily resurrection from the tomb, He now intercedes for us to the Father as our Mediator, Priest and Advocate; and will, one day, return for his bride, the church.

Section 5          The Holy Spirit (Pneumatology)

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the God head.    He is co-equal with the Father and the Son.  The Holy Spirit has the responsibility to teach, comfort, intercede and reprove.  He         regenerates, indwells, seals, sanctifies and justifies the believer. He also gives understanding of the Scriptures.  The Holy Spirit is the author of         the Scriptures and is the restraining force in the world today.  The Holy Spirit will place     emphasis on the Son of God, and not Himself   (the Spirit).

Section 6          Man (Anthropology

We believe that man was created in the image of God, and that he voluntarily sinned and plunged the whole human race into condemnation and death. All human beings are born with a sinful nature, thereby requiring a "new birth" in order to go to heaven. Man was also made in 3 parts:  body, soul and spirit.

Section 7          Angels and Demons (Angelology, Demonology)

We believe angels were created as perfect beings by God, for Him.  There are three (3) groups of angels:  Cherubim’s, Seraphim’s and Archangels.  One day the saved will judge angels.  Satan, as Lucifer, rebelled against God and led 1/3 of the angels in the rebellion.  Those angels, along with Satan, were cast from heaven.  Those angels who rebelled are what we now call demons.

Section 8          Satan

We believe that Satan, a fallen angel named Lucifer, is a distinct and real personality. He possesses great power and is the adversary of Jesus Christ and all born again believers. His eternal destiny is eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire.

Section 9          The Church (Ecclesiology)

We believe that the visible, local church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, the Word, and fellowship. The church is called the Bride of Christ.  We believe that, to the church, are committed two ordinances: Baptism of all believers by immersion and the Lord's Supper.   There are two Biblical officers of the church; the pastor, also called a bishop, overseer, elder and under shepherd and the deacons.  The ministry of the local church is the task of preaching the Gospel to every creature, the edification of its members, and the lifting up the Lord Jesus Christ in whatever field of service is available.

Section 10        The Rapture and Last Days (Eschatology)

We believe in the personal, pre-millennial return of our Lord Jesus Christ.  His return for His own (the Rapture) will come as a thief in the night and is imminent. The events of prophecy to be fulfilled are, in this order:  the rapture of the church, the 7 year tribulation on earth; during the tribulation, in heaven will be the judgment seat of Christ for believers and the marriage supper of the Lamb; Christ’s return to earth and the Battle of Armageddon, the Millenial Reign of Christ, the final battle, the final judgment (the Great White Throne Judgment), and eternity in heaven or hell.

Section 11        Salvation (Soteriology)

We believe that salvation is by grace through faith. No work by man, in any means, adds or aids in securing favor with God for salvation. All true believers, having been born again, are possessors of everlasting life, sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption and shall never perish, and are eternally secure in Him.

Section 12        Separation

We believe that every born again believer should manifest a Christ-like life by a consistent walk in the Holy Spirit, fully and constantly yielding his members to the indwelling Holy Spirit. We believe in a separated life for all believers.  A believer is to be separate from the world and worldly lusts; from false religions; from disobedient Christians; and from sin and the appearance of sin.

Section 13        Lawsuits Between Believers

We believe that Christians are prohibited from bringing civil lawsuits against other Christians to resolve personal disputes.  We believe the church possesses all the resources necessary to resolve personal disputes between members.

Section 14        Human Sexuality

A. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate, sexual activity should be engaged in, outside of marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgenderism, transvestites, LGBTQ, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, or  pornography, is a sinful perversion of God's gift of sex.  We believe that God rejects any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance.

B.  As we believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman; we further believe, according to the Scriptures, that marriage is between a man who is born         a man, and a woman who is born a woman.

C.  We further believe that a man is a human being who is born   a male with male genitalia; and a woman is a human being who      is born female with female genitalia.

Section 15        Beginning of Life and Abortion

We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion is murder. We reject any teaching that abortion of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, population control, or the mental well being of the mother is acceptable.

Section 16        Euthanasia

We believe that the direct taking of an innocent human life is a moral evil, regardless of the intention.  Life is a gift of God and must be respected from conception until natural death.  Thus we believe that an act or omission which, of itself or by intention, causes death in order to eliminate suffering constitutes a murder contrary to the will of God.  Discontinuing medical procedures that are extraordinary or disproportionate to the expected outcome can be a legitimate refusal of over-zealous treatment.

Section 17        Creation

We believe that God created the universe in six literal, 24-hour periods.  We reject evolution, the Gap Theory, the Day-Age Theory and Theistic Evolution as unscriptural theories of origin.

Section 18        Family Relationships

A.  We believe that men and women are spiritually equal in          position before God but that God has ordained distinct and             separate spiritual functions for men and             women in the home       and the church.  The husband is to be the leader of the home        and men are to be leaders (pastors and deacons) of the church.

B.  We believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society.  The husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church.  The wife is to submit herself to the Scriptural leadership of her husband as the church submits to the headship of Christ.  Children are an heritage from the Lord.  Parents are responsible for teaching   their children spiritual and moral values and leading them, through consistent lifestyle example and appropriate discipline, including Scriptural corporal correction.

Section 19        Civil Government

We believe that God has ordained and created all authority consisting of three basic institutions

                                    (1) the home,

                                    (2) the church, and

                                    (3) the state.

Every person is subject to these authorities, but all (including the authorities themselves) are answerable to God and governed by His Word.  God has given each institution specific Biblical responsibilities and balanced those responsibilities with the understanding that no institution has the right to infringe upon the other.  The home, the church, and the state are equal and sovereign in   their respective Biblically assigned spheres of responsibility under God.

Section 20        Missions

We believe that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.  As ambassadors of Christ, we must use all available means to         go to the foreign           nations and not wait for them to come to us.  We believe this includes home missions as well.

Section 21        Giving

We believe that every Christian, as a steward of that portion of   God’s wealth     entrusted to him, is obligated to financially support his local church.  We believe that God has established the tithe as a basis for giving, but that every Christian should also give other offerings sacrificially and cheerfully to the support of the church, the relief of those in need, and the spread of the Gospel.  We believe that a Christian relinquishes all rights to direct the use of his tithe or offering once the gift has been made.
